Burrell lashes upsurge of violence in football
PRESIDENT of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Captain Horace Burrell, has warned that his administration will “not tolerate” violent behaviour in Jamaica’s football. The JFF head was responding to a sudden spike in violent incidents at football games that have resulted in one fatality in St Ann on Tuesday afternoon.“We will have to take corrective action and we must act firmly so spectators and players will understand that we will not tolerate this scourge; we will do everything in our power to eradicate it,” Burrell said yesterday. He said what was more alarming was the fact that the most recent incidents of fan and player violence occurred in the usually “well behaved” rural communities of the island.“It’s not happening in Jamaica’s more volatile innercity areas, but in our quite rural areas, which is somewhat frightening,” said Burrell.
