Beacon takes the spoils after violence-hit final
BEACON football club are the 2009-2010 St. Elizabeth Wray and Nephew Major League champions.
They were awarded the title in the board room during an emergency meeting of the St Elizabeth Football Association’s executive on May 4. This followed the violence-hit aborted second leg final between Beacon FC and Holland Police Youth Club at St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) last Sunday.
The teams had played to a 0-0 stalemate in the first leg a week earlier at the same venue. In the second leg, Beacon earned a 1-0 lead as a result of a disputed penalty when referee Dwight Royal was forced to end the contest with ten minutes of scheduled time remaining as a result of disorder.
Ugly television pictures showed at least one player with blood streaming from his face after being hit by a missile.
