Corby, All-Stars for Malvern final
MALVERN, St Elizabeth — Corby and Champion All Stars will contest today’s final of the Malvern Corner League following contrasting victories in last weekend’s semi-final games.
In the first game of a double-header, fourth-placed Champion All-Stars stopped second-placed Smithfield, 5-3, while in the second game, Corby beat Bethlehem Moravian College (BMC) 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 stalemate after regulation and extra time.
Champion’s Conroy Sinclair was the star of the opening game with four goals scored in 11th, 45th, 85th and 90+ minutes, while Jermaine Gunter also netted for the winners iin the 37th minute. Smithfield’s leading
scorer, Nyron Morgan, scored a hat-trick in the 29th, 80th and 85th minutes of play.
Coach of Champions, Jermaine Rochester, was “very pleased” with his team’s performance. “We rose to the occasion and we’re looking forward to Saturday’s (today’s) final,” he said.
