Explosive Report for Master Blaster Trophy
An irresistible field of 14 passed the entry box for the 1,000 metres straight $516,000 Master Blaster Trophy principal feature at Caymanas Park today.
And adopting a greater conscious approach to devising more competitive racing programme by the promoters, three other races on the under card of the nine-race programme — the $375,000 Clifford Stewart Memorial Cup claiming event over 1,200 metres, the $715,000 Overnight Allowance three-year-olds and upward and the $735,000 Alex’s “Dig Out” Handicap – Race # 2 last race sprint over 1,000 metres straight — have also attracted forceful entries. First post is 1:20 pm.
The Master Blaster Trophy for Restricted Allowance 111 native-bred four-year-olds and upward (NW3 O/T) will be run just before the ninth race to hold the attention of punters for the recuperating last race “Dig Out” Handicap event sponsored by Alex’s Import Ltd.
A race that is not easy to pick a winner, any one of five runners could come out on top, as the Master Blaster Trophy dash looks to be a truly competitive affair.
Recent winner Reggae Rock trained by Robert Darby Snr, Flagaman trained by Anthony Nunes, Explosive Report trained by Gary Subratie, Meelo trained by Richard Azan and Lord Admiral trained by Norman Palmer have shown from recent evidence of preparation and past performances that the winner could easily come from this group of runners, and as such they are likely to be the most competitive.
Despite toting top weight Meelo, ridden by Dick Cardenas, looks a good bet despite being a narrow loser to Fee Fi Foe over the distance in April. The Western Classic dark bay four-year-old colt threw in a clicker in his next race while riding the bends under Andrew Ramgeet, but returning once more for a crack at the straight course will do so much better prepared and with Cardenas getting the call, could create the possibility for a more positive outcome.
Lord Admiral, who had Meelo behind on last, is well placed in the scales at 52.0kg to again maintain the advantage with the 3.0kg claim of his apprentice rider Jevvanne Erwin and being a chestnut gelding out of straight specialist Princess Ellen (Let’s Get Physical) by Law Of The Sea, should be in the heat of battle from the moment the starter sends them on their way.
Flagaman has never won over the distance but has gone close and will be ready for another crack at it. A five-year-old chestnut gelding who has only ran twice in the last two years, he will turn up for his second run of the season far more keen and ready than he did in mid April when he returned to the track and finished behind Big Bargain and Alias Mr C over 1,100 metres.
Top claiming apprentice Doushane Gordon, who is doing duty for the Nunes stables in the absence of the suspended leading apprentice Aaron Chatrie, will ride Flagaman to come in at 52.0kg.
Explosive Report and Reggae Rock are the other two runners in the party more than any other who could go all the way in this event and it is a tussle to choose from either.
