Lloyd tops Flow Cup awardees
In a private reception held at Flow’s offices on Thursday to congratulate Boys’ Town on their consecutive Flow Champions Cup title wins, Renae Lloyd of Boys’ Town was named Flow Champions Cup Most Valuable Player for the 2009/10 season of the all-island knock-out competition.
With a hat-trick in Boys’ Town’s 4-3 semi-final win against Arnett Gardens at the Tony Spaulding Complex, and a brilliantly-taken penalty kick in the final against Humble Lion, Lloyd was clearly the star that shone brightest in the eyes of the adjudicating panel.
For his efforts he was given $70,000 and the MVP trophy.
Lloyd also shared the leading goalscorer award with Kimroy Davis of Humble Lion, with four goals apiece. Kimroy Davis, who netted in Humble Lion’s encounters against Tivoli Gardens, Waterhouse and St Georges SC en route to the final, hammered a freekick from 20 yards in the final against Boys’ Town to complete his impressive tally.
Other awards were handed to Andrew Price, winning coach, who pocketed $50,000 and a trophy, while Kimroy Davis also collected the second place medals on behalf of Humble Lion who pocketed $400,000 for finishing second.
At the start of the knockout season, both Flow and SportsMax pledged $3,000 for every goal scored in this year’s competition to the Haiti relief effort . With a total of 63 goals, Flow and SportsMax donated $189,000, which was later matched by Flow, bringing the total to $378,000. The money was turned over to the Jamaica Red Cross.
Flow is in its third season sponsoring the national knockout tournament in a five-year partnership with SportsMax.
