Goals for Goodison, Lisbie as League One ends
LONDON, England (CMC) — Reggae Boy Ian Goodison scored on Saturday to ensure Tranmere Rovers avoided relegation on the final day of the English League One season.
His first half strike helped Rovers to a 3-0 win away to Stockport County and Gillingam’s loss at Wycombe Wanderers by a similar margin saw Tranmere finish on 51 points, a single point above the drop zone.
Both Gillingham and Wycombe were relegated along with Southend and Stockport County, while Norwich City and Leeds were automatically promoted.
At Edgeley Park, Tranmere took the lead seven minutes before half-time when Goodison finished emphatically following a superb build-up with Bas Savage.
Eight minutes after the break, Ian Thomas-Moore doubled Tranmere’s advantage after volleying home Ivorian defender Zoumana Bakayogo’s left-
sided cross.
The visitors made sure of full points in the 76th minute when Joss Labadie pounced on a rebound after the keeper had failed to hold on to a shot
from Savage.
Jamaican Kevin Lisbie was also on the scoresheet on Saturday, scoring a 90th minute penalty to give Colchester a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient at home at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
The 31-year-old converted his 13th goal of the season from the spot after Luke Ashworth had handled the ball in the area.
Colchester finished the season eighth in the standings on 72 points.
