Morgan Jr heads for 3-week trial stint in Denmark
TEENAGE sensation Marvin Morgan Jr is scheduled to leave the island on Friday for a three-week trial stint with Danish Division One football team Vejle Boldklub, according to Boys’ Town coach Andrew Price.
“I spoke to Darryl Powell, his agent, and they’re having him on a trial in Denmark. He leaves on Friday to go on trial,” Price confirmed to the Observer on Sunday.
“He’s (Morgan Jr) one of our better prospects that we have in our youth system and we wish him all the best (because) he’s a good talent,” Price added.
It will be the second time in three months that the talented youngster, who helped St George’s College win the 2009/2010 Manning Cup and Olivier Shield competitions, will be leaving the island for trials, following a trek to English Premier League team Birmingham City in February.
“I think this will be a little longer, it will be about three to four weeks, so hopefully something can come out of it. With his natural skill, we hope that he will be able to go over there and make an impression and hopefully be able to secure something,” the Boys’ Town coach added.
For his part, Morgan Jr, who has earned two call-ups to train with the senior Reggae Boyz, told the Observer that he will be going all out to try and earn a contract.
“I just have to take this opportunity as another chance to make my family and everybody feel proud of me,” Morgan Jr said.
“(I know that) it is going to be rough, like a hill to climb, but I’m just going out there to play how I should play my style of ball game and I will get over it,” he reasoned.
Morgan Jr’s agent, former Reggae Boy Powell, is also optimistic that the skilful teenager will do well enough to ink a deal with the Danish side.
“If Marvin goes and performs as well as I know he can, he will have a contract,” Powell was quoted as saying recently.
“Once the opportunities present themselves we believe that players should take it with both hands and go and make the best of it. This may be his last game this season or I would like it to be the last game for a little while, but let’s see how the trial works out. It’s an opportunity and he goes with our blessings,” Price told the Observer after the teenager helped the Red Brigade beat Tivoli Gardens 4-3 in the Digicel Premier League on Sunday.
