Lifeisjustforliving to rebound in sprint
CHURCH Pen Farm’s top locally-bred three-year-old colt Lifeisjustforliving, who tasted defeat for the first time in the 2,000 Guineas Classics when beaten into second place by Mark My Word in his fourth career start, returns to short sprinting at Caymanas Park today.
A programme of 11 races has been carded with the $528,000 W ‘Billy’ Pick Memorial Cup as the principal feature with post time at 12:45 pm.
Seven will contest the 2,000 metres distance with Rifleman, Il Caimano and Blondie Blondie as the principal runners, but the third race is where most attention will be focused, as Lifeisjustforliving, ridden by Omar Walker, takes on five rivals in a 1,200-metre sprint that will include decent opposition in stable mates Trial Lawyer, Soca Party and Classy Prospect, along with Prince Theo.
Trained by leading and champion conditioner Wayne DaCosta, the far-striding son of Region of Merit out of the Cannon Shell sprinter Bold Queen will compete in a Restricted Stakes imported three-year-olds (NW3 and maidens) and native-bred three-year-olds and is expected to win.
But his participation here looks to be much more than meets the eye, as before coming into this race his preparation seemed more towards the upcoming Lotto Classic for the Governor’s Cup on May 24, with some steady gallops without much speed work.
And to continue preparation Lifeisjustforliving has had an equipment change with the figure-eight added for the first time with a distance of ground in mind.
