Munro, St Andrew to defend U-16 hockey titles
DEFENDING champions Munro College and St Andrew High will sek to defend their titles against Mona High and Alpha Academy in the ISSA/JHF U-16 hockey finals at Mona today.
Showing a preference for a compact and systematic style, Munro College will use their vast experience at this level to close out Mona, who have shown depth so far this season.
Levar Dunchie, Nye Lyn, Jason McPherson, and Leonard Brown will have to feature for Munro to sew up this title, while Mona will counter with their top-scorer Johnardo Edwards (five goals) and Jevaughn Osbourne (four goals), supported by Howard Lindsay and Obrian Hayden.
Munro and Mona have won five matches and drawn one apiece and are meeting for the first time this season.
In the late encounter, Alpha, to be led by scoring ace Shanar White, who has a league record 15 goals so far, will enter as favourites, having beaten the defending champions 2-1 in a group match on April 26.
The Kirk King-coached Alpha will also look to Brittany Smith, whose skill and fitness have shattered many a defence, with Jhanell Johnson, Kenetta Howell and Trishanae McLeod likely to play a role.
As coach King fine-tunes his match-winning strategy, St Andrew, under coach Dr Michelle Holt, have the will and way to blunt the Alpha tactics.
With Demi Nicholson and Kamille Griffiths the centre of play for the defending champions, Tenneisha Jackson, Simone Gardner, Jodien Russell, Kimberly Shaw, and Micaela Sucklal will have to step up and fight to the end.
