Muschett, Herbert for basketball play-offs
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Muschett High and Herbert Morrison will represent the Western Confederation at the May 20th national play-offs in Kingston after winning Monday’s semi-finals of the ISSA/KFC Schoolgirl competition.
Top-ranked Muschett, who were unbeaten throughout the regular season, beat Mannings, 57-39, while Herbert Morrison edged Spot Valley High, 25-22, in a low-scoring game in the semi-finals at Herbert Morrison.
The championships will be decided on Friday at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, starting at 2:30 pm.
On Monday, Andrene Jackson scored 20 points to lead Muschett over Mannings, as Loretta Gordon scored 14 points and got six rebounds.
Shantal Gifford led Mannings with 19 points as the Westmoreland school trailed from the start, down 14-8 after the first quarter and 27-18 at half-time and never managed to catch up.
In the second game, both teams struggled to score baskets for the first three periods, as Herbert Morrison led 8-4, 11-5 and 18-7 after the first three.
Sasheena Foster scored eight points to lead Herbert Morrison, while Shauntae Brown got seven points, 11 rebounds and nine steals.
Sasheena Harding scored 11 points for Spot Valley.
