Fraser excited about Diamond League series
KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) — Shelly-Ann Fraser has two goals in mind when the international season kicks into high gear later this month.
The women’s Olympic and World 100 metres champion hopes to perfect her starts, and successfully finish the season without any serious injuries.
“Training has been going very well for me so far,” said Fraser in her first entry to the online diary series appearing on the website of the IAAF, track & field’s world governing body.
“My coach and I are working on perfecting my technique, and also working on my starts. Yes, my starts!”
She added: “Most people might say [my starts are] good, but I am always willing to do more to make it better.”
The 23-year-old Fraser is only the second woman to hold the Olympic and world 100 titles simultaneously, after American Gail Devers, and is excited about the prospects for the new season, which includes the lucrative IAAF Diamond League.
“I am really excited to start my season as I have only run at the Penn Relays so far and even though my country did not win, it was definitely a good feeling going on the track again,” she said.
“My first 100m gets on the way in Shanghai [on May 23], and I’m really looking forward to going back to China, where it all started.
“Who knows, I might leave extremely happy. I expect an exciting race and I know the competition will also be fierce, but I live to compete at my best at all times, so I know my competitors will do the same.”
Fraser, one of the 13 IAAF Diamond League ambassadors, expects the season to be also quite hectic, and she admitted that she is scheduled to run at “quite a few meets this year”.
“So as you know it’s a long season and I’m ready and putting in the hard work,” she said.
“This year is wonderful because there is no major championship, and I am looking forward to running some wonderful times and just enjoy being healthy and blessed.”
