Inter-Col badminton finals set for today
THE Inter-collegiate Badminton League will come to an end today at the Constant Spring Golf Club at 6:00 pm with UTech, UWI and NCU seeking the top prizes.
The male final will see UTech, spearheaded by 2008 national senior and junior champion Gareth Henry, starting as the favourites.
Henry, who is also the 2009 national doubles champion, has as his teammates Marvin Clarke, Andre Morrison and John Michael Linton.
They will do battle against UWI who have their Union president, Vishwanah Tolan as well as Sheldon Wright and Craig Simpson in their line-up.
Tolan has twice been national senior doubles champion as well as being a former national junior champion.
First time finalists in the female category, NCU, will field their determined duo of Latoya Bartley and Karen Blair, who both had a
successful season.
They will try to fend off UTech, who have Geordine Henry, Simone James and Michelle Richards on their roster. Both matches are practically guaranteed to be competitive and exciting.
The closest match-up of the competition thus far has been the female semi-final between NCU and UWI, where after home and away ties, both teams were tied on points.
This forced the playing of a tie-breaker, where each team chose their best doubles pair for a final match. A win by NCU in that match got them to the final ahead of UWI.
