Night meeting at Vale Royal
SEVERAL high-ranking members of the cabinet gathered at Vale Royal for a private meeting last night.
The meeting came approximately 48 hours after Prime Minister Bruce Golding admitted in Parliament that he had given the go ahead for the Jamaica Labour Party to engage the services of US law firm Manatt Phelps and Phillips.
Information Minister Daryl Vaz downplayed the importance of the discussions, telling members of the media that the meeting was one of their usual meetings to discuss the country’s affairs.
When asked if the Manatt issue was a topic of discussion at the meeting, Vaz said the meeting was nothing out of the ordinary.
“The prime minister had just returned from Montego Bay, so as expected, we had one of our regular meetings. Everything of major concern was discussed,” he said.
The Manatt affair gathered additional steam on Tuesday, after Golding admitted in parliament that he had sanctioned a deal with the law firm to lobby the US government to drop its extradition request for Tivoli strongman, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.
This has drawn fire from Jamaicans, who have called for the prime minister’s resignation.
