Heights big winners in Guardian Div Two
ALBION, St James — Heights FC were the biggest winners on Wednesday as the St James FA’s Guardian Life Division Two competition got under way with five games in three zones.
The Norwood-based Heights rushed to the top of Zone A after beating Mt Salem-based Causa United 4-1 at Albion.
Kemar Forrester and Kingsley Dawkins scored twice for Heights, as they led 3-1 at half-time.
Forrester opened the scoring in the 25th minute, but Causa hit back two minutes later through Aaron Mattison.
Dawkins got the first of his double in the 34th, before Forrester completed his double in the 45th.
Dawkins then got the only goal of the second half, scoring in the 55th.
In Zone B, there were wins for Jackson Town and RootHouse over King Street and Hart Street, respectively.
Jackson Town lead on goal difference after beating King Street 3-0 at Tucker, while Roothouse came back from a goal down at half-time to edge neighbours Hart Street 2-1 at the UDC Field.
Despite being outplayed for most of the first half, Hart Street led 1-0 at half-time, thanks to a well-taken goal from Keneil Robinson in the 27th.
Oneil Gibbs equalised for Root House early in the second half, while Charles Largie grabbed the winner in the 77th.
Kempshot United and Unity Hall FC are tied in the lead after scoring opening 2-1 wins.
At Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College, Delano Birch in the 27th and Damion Williams in the 59th minute scored for Kempshot, while Paul Archer had scored for Tank Road in the 42nd to tie the scores 1-1 at half-time.
Unity Hall came from behind to beat Survivors at Bogue in a game that saw all three goals coming in the final 21 minutes.
Jeffrey Baltimore shot Survivor into the lead in the 69th, but Andre Morgan equalised three minutes later before an own-goal in the 86th decided the result.
The competition, which is sponsored by Guardian Life for the 11th straight year, was launched at a press conference at the Jamaica Grandiosa Hotel on Tuesday.
The total sponsorship package amounts to $600,000, with the winners getting $80,000 and the beaten finalists $40,000.
