JNA could bid for 2013 World Youth Champs
THE Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) says that if it gets the right amount of corporate backing before the June 30 deadline, it will bid to host the 2013 World Youth Netball Championships (WYNC).
Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) boss Marva Bernard made the revelation at a media briefing at the Sunshine Chalet yesterday.
She told the Observer the estimated figure the JNA had budgeted for was US$2 million.
“We need to confirm enough sponsors and we need that figure up front in order to put in a bid,” Bernard said.
She told the Observer she hopes to put in the bid at the next board meeting of the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA) on July 9 and 10 in Los Angeles, USA.
Scotland had initially presented a solitary bid to stage the next WYNC at Congress last year, but after a review in March, the IFNA board decided to reopen bidding.
Jamaica last hosted an international netball competition in 2003 when it staged the World Netball Championships when Australia earned the top prize.
