Single-engine plane crashes in Brazil
BRASILIA, Brazil (AFP) — A single-engine plane crashed yesterday near the city of Manaus in the Brazilian Amazon, killing everyone on board, officials said.
Rescue workers said the plane was carrying five members of the secretariat of education.
“The plane took off from an airfield toward the interior (of the state of Amazonas) and a few minutes after takeoff requested permission to return to the landing strip,” said a spokesman for the local air command.
“When the radio tower requested information on the emergency, there was no response from the aircraft.”
Officials said the aircraft crashed near a religious seminary on the outskirts of Manaus, and immediately caught fire.
