Man shot and injured in Spanish Town
ONE man was shot and seriously injured in Spanish Town this afternoon.
Police report that the man was attacked and shot at Young Street in the old capital.
The injured man is now in hospital and police say his condition is considered serious.
The incident happened about 5:pm.
A police officer, who asked not to be identified, said today’s shooting is linked to an ongoing feud between the rival One Order and Klansman gangs.
“These gangs are ruthless and brazen. They have no regard for life and this incident is the latest of many shootings to take place in the town. Right now the decent, law-abiding citizens are cowering in fear,” the cop told the Observer.
The One Order and Klansman gangs are aligned to the Jamaica Labour Party and People’s National Party respectively. The gangs have been at loggerheads for more than a decade. The main bone of contention is extortion rights to the bus park at Burke Road in the town.
The bloodletting between both gangs is responsible for more than 250 murders police say.
This is the third shooting incident in the town since Wednesday. Two persons have been killed and at least six others injured.
