England, Aussies clash in T20 finale
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — England will seek to end their 35-year wait for a title while Australia will look to add yet another to their already well-furnished trophy cabinet, when the two powers clash in the World Twenty20 Championship men’s final here today.
Despite reaching four finals, England have been unable to convert any into a global title, but energised by the form and confidence of a well-balanced squad, will believe they can finally bring that drought to an end.
In contrast, Australia’s recent history has been riddled with success. Only four years ago at the same venue, they beat Sri Lanka in the final of the Cricket World Cup to complete a hat-trick of titles in the 50-over form of the game.
Last year in South Africa, they beat New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy and are now on the cusp of clinching top honours in cricket’s newest and most innovative form.
On virtue of this record and their unbeaten form in the current tournament, the Aussies enter the final at Kensington Oval as favourites, but England’s captain Paul Collingwood said his side was up for the occasion.
