GC Foster cop ‘C’ League netball crown
GC FOSTER Strikers ‘B’ overcame a shaky start to claim the JNA/SVL ‘C’ League title with a 33-25 win over newcomers Jobs Lane United at the National Indoor Sports Centre yesterday.
GC Foster had the early advantage but missed two clear shots despite an unforced error by a Jobs Lane team comprising mostly schoolgirls.
Jobs Lane seized the initiative, taking the ball into their court and finding the goal three times before GC Foster had scored.
Despite being more experienced, GC Foster made several mistakes early in the quarter which Jobs Lane goal attack Venessa McLaughlin used to her advantage.
McLaughlin proved the most valuable player for her team, ending with 15 from 22 attempts.
Experience played into the hands of GC Foster as goal shooter Marsha Haye landed 21 goals from 32 attempts and goal attack 12 from 19 to help them pull away in the fourth quarter to take the game 33-25 and the $60,000 first prize.
UWI Revolution were set to face Jetsetters ‘A’ in the ‘A’ League final at press time.
