Go My Robin upsets in Trophy feature
GO My Robin came running on after turning up the lane and scored a notable three-quarters-of-a-length upset as a 7-1 bet in the $1,188,000 Bonnie Blue Flag Trophy (Gr.1) feature at Caymanas Park yesterday.
The small-bodied Go My Robin who runs well for the light weight female claiming apprentice Georgina Sergeon who was marking time in mid pack but progressed sufficiently to be in a competitive position after turning for home.
Sergeon then found racing room between horses in the final 100 metres while angling for the inside and after finding the narrowest racing room along the running rails came through with determined run to peg back the longtime leader Below The Waist to run 1,820 metres in a time of 1:55.3.
It was the third win for the ultra consistent Go My Robin in the six-horse field for Graded Stakes three-year-olds and upward. Go My Robin also had five second place finishing in his 11 starts for the season.
Below The Waist, ridden by Wesley Henry, who led the field ahead of fractions 26.4, 51.0, 1:15.2, 1:41.4, failed to withstand the fierce gallop along the rails from the winner and finished second as a 9-5 betting option.
Machismo, ridden by top claiming apprentice Doushane Gordon, finished third at odds of 24-1 with the 6-5 second favourite Ad Infinitum completing the frame with leading claiming apprentice Aaron Chatrie astride.
He’s Really Ok, also at odds of 6-5, was last ridden by Ansel Dancel
Trainer Wesley Perkins, who was ecstatic with the colts first win against Graded Stakes runners said he went into the race with an open mind.
“If I did not win and I ran well that would have been heartening as the horse is pointed towards bigger upcoming events, but he has won and it is a great feeling as he has been performing well all season with only two wins to show. The rider who knows him quite well did a fine job,” said Perkins.
Owned by Newton Walford, Go My Robin, a four-year-old chestnut colt by Go Rocking Robin out of My Lady Silk (Do’nrt Blush), was bred at Lakeland Farms Ltd.
It was the colt’s fifth win from 34 career starts and he earned $648,650 as the winner’s share for a bankroll of $3,164,650 lifetime.
