Kangaroos hop away with first innings
Melbourne Kangaroos easily secured first innings points in their big clash with Kingston Tigers in the Jamaican Super Cricket League match at Sabina Park yesterday.
After resuming on 106 for one, the Kangaroos batted positively to post a score of 377 for nine declared. Captain Carlton Baugh Jr cracked a topscore of 75 to bolster the middle order after last week’s centurion, Donovan Pagon, was cheaply dismissed. Young national batsman John Ross Campbell added just 11 to his overnight score before he was dismissed for 69, while Damian Henry chipped in with an attacking 59.
Allrounder Nkrumah Bonner took three wickets for 72 runs, while Federick Hermitt grabbed two wickets.
Batting a second time, Kingston struggled to 83 for four before play was called. Legspinner Damion Jacobs finished with three for 11.
At Little London, defending champions Manchester beat Westmoreland by six wickets. Batting first, the home team made a modest 181 thanks to Nickoy Samuels’ 69. Jamie Merchant took four for 54, while Donavan Sinclair took three wickets.
Sinclair and Courtney Allen then stroked half centuries as Manchester reached 258 all out. At their second turn at battin Westmoreland were then torn apart for 175 as David Powell took six for 54.
Chasing 99 for victory, Manchester cantered to that score with the loss of four wickets.
At Port Rhoades Sports Club, St Ann Cutters came from behind to defeat St Elizabeth Warriors by six wickets. After gaining a first innings lead of only six runs, the Warriors stumbled to 199 all out as Duran White took three for 14.
West Indies youth batsman John Campbell then stroked 75 not out as St Ann pulled off an unlikely win. Out-of-favour Jamaica batsman Xavier Marshall also struck 63 during the chase of 206.
In another match, St Catherine Saints trounced Trelawny Buccaneers by an innings and 124 runs at Chedwin Park. After dismissing the Buccaneers for 112 thanks to five wickets each from Tamar Lambert and Bevon Brown, the Saints racked up 277 for eight declared as Wayne Morgan struck an unbeaten 56.
Batting a second time, the visitors were embarrassed for 41 as Brown took six wickets to finish with 11 in the match, while Lambert took three to fnish with a match haul of eight.
