Revolution capture Division ‘A’ League
UNIVERSITY of the West Indies UWI Revolution defeated Jetsetters ‘A’ 55-42 goals to emerge champions of the 2010 Supreme Ventures/JNA Division ‘A’ League final played at the National Indoor Sports Centre (NISC) on Saturday evening.
The Conrad Parks-coached Revolution returning to active netball club league competition after a three-year absence, was clearly the better team on the day as they played extremely well throughout the match.
From the first centre pass, the Revolution produced their usual fast-attacking plays, and quickly got things going especially through their centre court players Denelia Davis, Zalika Paul and Caneta Brown.
Revolution went into a 10-4 lead through goal-shooter Alicia Williams who used her height to great advantage to collect high looping overhead passes to keep her team in the lead at the first-quarter break at 18-7.
Coming into the second quarter, Jetsetters needed to lift their game in order to match their quicker opponents as their centre court players Antoinette Gray, Shennie Burke and Simone Marley struggled to keep pace.
Jetsetters, however, never looked like closing Revolution’s big lead as they were being outplayed in all departments by the new champions who outscored them 15-8 goals to take a commanding 33-15 goal lead at half-time.
The one-sided affair continued when action resumed in the third quarter which saw Revolution put up an unassailable 47-26 lead over Jetsetters.
With Revolution having a big lead coming into the fourth and final quarter, their defenders Shadell Hill and Lateka Lynch did a good job in intercepting and blocking passes, shutting down Jetsetters’ Shantel Edwards and Annette Miller.
Although they managed to outscore Revolution in the final quarter 16-8, it was too little too late for Jeststters.
Williams netted a near-perfect 42 goals from 47 attempts and Kerr 13 goals from 18 efforts for Revolution, while Edwards with 26 goals from 31 attempts and Miller 16 goals from 26 attempts scored for Jetsetters.
