All systems go for Dover race meet
Seaboard Marine Shipping last week left Guyana for Jamaica transporting four of Guyana’s fastest race cars and three motor cycles.
The four exceptionally fast cars will be piloted by Guyana’s champion Andrew King — Mazda RX 7, his closest rivals, Mark Vieira — Mazda RX 8, Kevin Jeffrey — Evolution 6 and Paul Vieira — Mazda RX 7.
These Caribbean greats will be matching skills with Jamaica’s ‘King’ David Summerbell Jr, Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore, Christopher Campbell, Peter ‘Bull’ Thompson, Gary Williams, Peter Rae and Guy Fraser. Out of Barbados are Marck Maloney in his Mazda RX 3 and Doug Maloney in his Audi.
These cream of the crop Caribbean racers will be competing with each other for the coveted Caribbean Drivers Championship title. The present holder of which is David Summerbell Jr.
Apart from the ‘ding-dong’ battle expected among the race drivers mentioned are two of Guyana’s top-class motor cyclists, namely Stephen Vieira and Maurice Menez, both on Yamaha 600 cc and Kevin Graham from Canada on Suzuki 600 cc as well as Randie Dyer of the USA. Representing Jamaica are Stefan Chin, Adrian Blake, Halquin Rodney and Dennis Chjin-quee. These ‘two wheels daredevils’ will be racing each other in three races run concurrently with the ‘Bb’ class riders, who will be send off 30 seconds ahead of the top-flight riders.
The modified production, improved production classes 27, 33, 37 and IP45 will provide serious competitions, with drivers such as Peter Jaggon, Allan Chen, Stephen Bansie and Kile Gregg, Tedroy Burton, Heath Causwell, Dean Corrrous, Bryan Foster among others.
The spectators will be treated with covered stands, a large vending area with tents with tables and chairs for their comfort. In addition, there will be two VIP all-inclusive entertainment lounges.
Fifteen exciting races are on the programmed, three of which caters for the CMRC competition.
The first race starts at 9:30 am following the opening ceremony at 9:00
am. Gates open at 7:00 am with admission $1,500. There will be no charge for children under 12 years.
