Arnett survive with 4-0 drubbing of August Town
Arnett Gardens ensured their safety in the Digicel Premier League on Sunday when Newton Sterling scored a brace to spur them to an emphatic 4-0 win over relegated August Town at the UWI Bowl.
With August Town scraping together a team mostly of Under-21 players after relegation was confirmed last week, Sterling struck in the 13th minute to give Arnett Gardens the lead.
During the half coach Wayne Fairclough kept his team focused on winning, as the home team honoured their fixture.
Dennis McKinley pushed Arnett further ahead in the 58th minute and two minutes later Sterling, fed by Cornel Chin-Sue, added his second for a comfortable 3-0 lead.
By then August Town had muffed two easy goal-scoring opportunities and it became apparent they would not convert any of their chances.
Though Arnett lost William Richards after 79 minutes when he took down goal-bound Diego Haughton, the writing was already on the wall for the relegated team.
Substitute Lennox Creary wrapped up the match in the 87th minute.
