TRIPLE world record holder Usain Bolt won the 100 metres in 9.86 seconds as he romped to victory in his season debut at the Daegu Race meet in South Korea today.

Bolt, running in his first 100 metre for the year, made good on his promise of running very fast by beating fellow compatriot Michael Frater and the American Michael Rogers.

The time was 0.28 seconds off the world record of 9.58 he set at last year’s world championships in Berlin, but he shaved 0.08 seconds off Tyson Gay’s 2009 meet record of 9.94.

Kenia Sincliar posted a championship record 2.00.51 to win the women’s 800 metres, beating the Olympic Champion Pamelo Jelimo.

Veronica Campbell-Brown and Sherone Simpson had to settle for second and third respectively in the women’s 100 metres. They were beaten by American Carmelita Jeter, who clocked 11.00 with Campbell- Brown finishing closely with 11.05 and Simpson 11.26.

In the men’s 200 metres American Ryan Bailey nipped Jamaica’s Marvin Anderson by 0.01 seconds in a keenly contested race.

In the women’s equivalent Rosemarie Whtye had to settle for third behind Bianca Knight and Cydonie Mothersill.

Other Jamaicans to make the frame are Dwight Thomas in the 110 metres hurdles which was won by David Oliver in a world leading 13.11.

Jermaine Gonzales posted 45.52 to finish behind Olympic Champion Angelo Taylor 45.22.

The meet, broadcast live in 3-D, was enjoyed by Seoul citizens on large television screens in city center plazas.
