Another year of raging excitement at El Toro
The tranquil rural town of Malvern, St Elizabeth, was raging with excitement recently with the fourth staging of the signature event El Toro: The Ultimate Taurus Party. This event was held at Tomlinson’s Top Shelf located a few chains from Hampton School for Girls.
The theme for this year’s event was jungle fever and patrons were adorned in their jungle prints as they were ready for the treat of their lives. Temperatures did rise with the pulsating beats from the DJ’s present. The El Toro signature DJ, Kurt Riley from FAME FM, deemed the ‘Party Animal’, ignited the gathering of over 500 patrons as he played recordings that spanned all genres of music. He started with retro dancehall, and took patrons along a trajectory of ecstatic selections from soca to the modern dancehall, and of course injecting musical mixes that only he knows how to execute. He was assisted by Malvern’s premier sound system Rebel Ruler and St Elizabeth’s newest disc jockey sensation, DJ Stunna.
In an effort to depict the jungle theme, or just to get in touch with their expressive side, the patrons utilised the body-painting services of Eon and Robbie Freespiritz. Additionally, because Tomlinson’s Promotions and DiCapricorn Entertainment (organisers of the event) are committed to youth development, they invited young designer Dania Farquharson of D-Doy Creations to display her crochet pieces, which ranged from swimwear to bags and included various articles of clothing.
The organisers were also thrilled to be affiliated with the Miss Bethlehem College competition for the second consecutive year. They sponsored a contestant who wore the sash Miss El Toro and who was also present at the event. Miss El Toro, Tiffany Reid, an ambitious and well-spoken first year teacher education student, displayed her talent and awareness with dignity and placed fourth in the competition.
El Toro, which is Spanish for the bull was conceptualised as a celebration party for persons who were born under the zodiac sign Taurus. The inaugural staging was on April 27, 2007, and since then it has become a calendar event.
The fifth staging of El Toro will be on April 30, 2011 and will feature many treats for the patrons, especially those who have been around since the first year.
