LMJ member Nina makes solo tracks
In 2009 the group LMJ embarked on a European tour opening for reggae singer Junior Kelly. Clearly, the group left an impression on Europe as they were requested to return, only this time not as an opening act but as the headliner. LMJ received a lot of attention, particularly in Germany where they were requested to record a song with a prominent rock band called The Rock Dudes.
According to LMJ, it was a very interesting studio session to say the least, as it saw the marriage of their vocals with the hard hitting instruments of rock, in an environment where only the language of music was understood.
It is this experience that group member, Nina Karle, draws on when she is called upon to appear at clubs featuring just her. Nina is an avid lover of jazz, blues and R&B and these are the genre from which she chooses her songs when she is gigging around town. Even though the group projects keep her busy, Nina says she still finds the time to work on her solo projects with various producers including Sly and Robbie and Trendsetta. When asked how she balances both the group and her solo projects, she confessed that it was “quite challenging at the best of times”, but knows it can be done as she has seen members of LUST and I-Three strike the balance between their commitment to their groups and their solo careers.
Nina Karle has released songs with Byron Lee, From a Distance; Michigan, What Am I Supposed To Do and is working on a project with Sly and Robbie. She is also an accomplished backing vocalist who has gone on tours with international artistes including Sly and Robbie, Sinead O’Connor and Joseph ‘Culture’ Hill.
