Tomorrow’s People hunt semi-final spot in St James
MT SALEM, St James — Zone B leaders and former champions Tomorrow’s People could secure their places in the semi-final of the St James Football Association’s Claro Senior League today with a win over last-placed Zone A team Mt Salem at Mt Salem in their third-round cross-zone game.
The playing of the three-game fixture will be contingent on good weather as rain has affected the St James fixture list last week, forcing postponements in all three leagues late in the week.
Tomorrow’s People lead Zone B with 27 points, six ahead of second-placed Fogo who will play Salt Spring United at the UDC field and a win today would ensure they cannot finish lower than second place.
Fogo must win all their remaining games and hope Tomorrow’s People lose at least two to have any chance of topping the zone.
The Anthony Follies Williams coached Tomorrow’s People have dominated the competition, winning a league-high eight games, drawing three, while losing just once. They scored a league-high 23 points and conceded a mere six.
The Bickersteth based club is also yet to concede a goal in their back-to-back wins in the third round and will start favourites ahead of Mt Salem who seem set for their second straight demotion season.
Mt Salem were relegated form the Western Confederation Super league last season, and with only six points so far and still to win a game, are prime candidates for the drop.
Fogo will hope to keep their semi-final hopes alive as well when they take on Salt Spring United at the UDC Field.
Fogo are in contention with two more clubs for the other semi-final place, but will have their hands full with Salt Spring United today.
After a slow start, Salt Spring have worked their way top mid tables and while a semi-final spot is still a long way off, they will seek to solidify their place in the competition.
They are in third place on 19 points, three behind Barrett Town and five ahead of fourth place and neighbours Salt Spring Roses.
Salt Spring Roses are also seeking to secure their place in the league after a slow start and should beat Abes Academy, the Zone B last placed team when they meet at Tucker.
