Sophia Squire prepares for promo tour
Reggae songstress Sophia Squire seems to be another reggae-great in the making. Armed with an enviable voice and remarkable writing skills, the singer who came to the fore a few years ago after touring with a number of reggae’s legends as a back-up singer, has embarked on her solo journey
Sophia who is known for the thought-provoking singles, Rat-A-Tat and No Guns among others, is getting ready to make her mark on the international market in September, when she sets off on a one-month promotional tour of Europe.
“It has always been my dream to be a solo artiste … not that I don’t enjoy being a back-up singer … and I am embracing this opportunity with both hands,” Squire said.
She added that her focus is on songs which tell a tale and which always have a positive side. “Music reflects life, but in life there is the good and the bad and it’s up to us to ensure that the message we are sending is uplifting. If we are reflecting on something negative, we should be hitting out against it rather than glorifying it,” she explained.
In the meantime, Sophia recently had a single released on the already popular Dream Riddim. For those who have been keeping abreast of new music video releases, Sophia’s song, Slow Motion on the medley has been a favourite with fans.
In addition, she has also released a new song, Naw Fight Ovah No Man.
“Everyone who has heard the song so far has had great things to say. As the title suggests, it’s about a woman who refuses to fight with another female for a man. It’s been getting a lot of great reviews so far and I’m happy about that,” said Sophia about the single which was produced by her managerial label, Breadroc.
“I’m just trying to stay focused and put in the work and tackle not only Europe and parts of the USA but also locally and I’m bringing it this year, so people can look out,” said Sophia.
