Gospel artistes endorse project to inspire students
I Can! is the message that gospel artistes including Goddy Goddy, Prodigal Son, Teena Tamara, Ryan Mark, Kevin Downswell, DJ Nicholas and radio host Nadine Blair will be endorsing on the covers of notebooks to help change the thought-processes of its purchasers.
The brainchild of Altano Morgan who described the idea for the creation as a vision from God said the I Can! branded books are already making a difference. He described how one student read the empowering words and broke down in tears.
At the official launch of the I Can! brand held in the Gardens of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel last Thursday, Morgan gave thanks to all the people who played their part in ensuring that the dream which was born from a visit to a Kingston bookshop in 2009 came to reality.
He shared how the Lord brought everything together, from sourcing a press to finding the right help in printing the books.
Manufactured under Morgan’s Canaan Family Entertainment Limited company the I Can! brand is a wide range of notebooks which feature positive messages inside and on the cover are photographs of popular personalities.
In explaining the concept, Morgan said that having images of the recording artistes on the cover will make the products attractive to a wide cross section of Jamaicans, children and adults alike, so that they would want to buy them and use them every day.
“The hope is that, while doing so, the subliminal messages would help them to see the positives in their daily challenges and to be encouraged to respond more positively.”
Principal of Jamaica College, Ruel Reid, lauded the entrepreneur for the inspirational series of notebooks as he highlighted some of the challenges facing young people today.
“The challenges we face are many. Our country stands plagued by the scourge of crime and violence, and increasingly we are witnessing violent incidents in our schools, lawlessness and indiscipline pervade more and more of our classrooms…We need the commitment, energy and dynamism of our youth now more than ever,” he said.
Reid urged students to “stay focused to opportunities and to train your brain to block out the negative and work amidst the positive. Turn off the TV…and get to work presenting the genius that you are meant to be to the world around you”.
