Powerful women and men concerts raise $25 million
SINCE its inception in 2000, the Powerful Women & Men Perform for Charity series of concerts has raised over $25 million to aid abandoned children or those with HIV-AIDS who are in the care of the Mustard Seed Communities. And on Sunday, June 6 at 6:00 pm, the organisers of the annual event will be seeking to add to the coffers with the staging of the 10th show in the series at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
Among the acts will be first-timers: Dorraine Samuels, Christine Ann Bell and Carolyn Gomes, who will join on stage such crowd favourites as Blossom O’Meally Nelson, Fay Pickersgill, Hyacinth Bennett, Aloun Assamba, Carol Francis, Madge Barrett, Michael Abrahams and DiMario McDowell, among several others.
Organiser Thyra Heaven expressed gratitude on behalf of Mustard Seed Communities to all the performers who over the years have sacrificed their time to prepare for the shows, as well as members of the organising team and all the volunteers, all of whom have worked together to make the Powerful Women & Men Show the outstanding success it has been.
“When the idea was born 10 years ago, there was a small core of the island’s leaders who were brave enough to get on the stage to do whatever it took to entertain the crowd. The number has grown significantly to the point where we have been challenged in recent years to fit everyone willing to perform on the show. But we have found a formula for this the 10th show and we look forward to producing a balanced and entertaining presentation,” she continued.
