Scotiabank Group cop One-Day Challenge trophy
SCOTIABANK Group defeated Peak Bottling 2-0 to cop the Catherine’s Peak/Western Sports One-Day Five-A-Side trophy and $30,000 last Saturday at the NWC playing field, Mona.
Twenty-four teams participated in this year’s renewal. The teams were placed in four groups of six teams, with the top two advancing to the quarter-finals. The quarter-finals saw Peak Bottling clipping Jamaica Broilers 2-1, Scotiabank Group stopping Maritime & Transports 2-0, G4S defeating Kingston Wharves 3-1 and Quality Fast One Builders clipping Island Grill 1-0.
In the semi-finals Peak Bottling stopped G4S 3-1 and Scotiabank Group clobbered Quality Fast One Builders 6-1.
The final was competitive, but Scotiabank Group secured victory with goals from Elgin Mitchell in the 13th minute and Nicholas McCreath in 18th minute.
Peak Bottling took home $15,000 for second place. Dwight Gordon of Kingston Wharves was the leading goal scorer with eight goals, while Damion Crooks and Damion Gordon of Scotiabank Group were the best goalkeeper and MVP, respectively, of the tournament.
The 2010 Business House Five-A-Side Football season kicks off on Saturday at the NWC playing field, Mona, with the dress parade of all 56 teams and the unveiling of the JUST Bet Division One and Two competitions, sponsored by Supreme Ventures Sports Betting.
Honey Bun are the sponsors for the knock-out competition. Starting time will be 2:00 pm.
