Spartan dent Treadlight semi-final hopes
TREADLIGHT, Clarendon — Treadlight FC suffered a setback in their bid to qualify for the semi-finals of the FX Trader/Clarendon Football Association Division One after a double strike from Ainsworth Fearon condemned them to a 1-3 defeat to already qualified Spartan FC at the Treadlight Community Centre on Saturday.
Fearon netted in the 39th and 71st minutes after Jerome Willis had given Spartan a 10th-minute lead. Keniel Bailey grabbed a consolation for Treadlight, who were facing defeat for the first time in the season.
The win saw Spartan improving to nine points atop Group B, and will now await the other three semi-finalists.
For Treadlight, the defeat means that they remain in second place on four points — three more than third-placed Chatteau Progressive, but have completed their fixtures and will now be hoping that results elsewhere go in their favour.
Chatteau with a -2 goal difference to Treadlight’s zero, can qualify ahead of Treadlight, but would have had to beat bottom-placed Cockpit FC (zero points) by three clear goals when they met at the New Bowens Community Centre in a 3:30 pm kick-off yesterday.
Over in Group A, three teams — Free Town FC (four), Comfort FC (four) and Harlem FC (two) — are still in with a chance of making the semis.
Harlem play out-of-contention New Longsville (zero) at the Turners Oval, while Free Town and Comfort meet at Bodles, also at 3:30.
A win for Harlem and even a stalemate in the Free Town-Comfort encounter could see them clinching a last four berth on goal difference.
