Hyde retains FEI Category B jumping crown
Julian Hyde, the 2009 champion, successfully defended his FEI World Jumping category B title at the weekend at the Kingston Polo Club & Equestrian Centre.
Riding the bay gelding Shambal, Hyde put in a flawless performance completing all four rounds over two days with zero faults.
The competition was very close at the end of the first day with four riders having with zero faults. Kelly Nunes, riding Comet, had an impressive weekend ending the third round with zero faults.
However, an unfortunate roll of a pole on jump 8A in the fourth round resulted with her ending with four jumping faults and placing second.
Lackife Leslie, riding Sassy, accumulated eight faults in the third round and although going clear in the fourth this was only good enough for third place.
Jonathan Vaz, riding Shabba Ranks, had all clear rounds up to the third round, but the pressure of the all important speed round resulted in twelve jumping faults and a fourth place finish.
