New Bowens could lift Major League crown
GAYLE, Clarendon — New Bowens FC could be crown champions of the Clarendon Captain’s Bakery Major League should they beat Gayle FC today at Gayle and second-placed Milk River United lose to Longwood FC at the weekend.
In the other game on for today, third-placed Rock River SC (28) will play seventh-placed Sunnyside FC (17) at Clarendon College. Both games will begin at 3:00 pm.
New Bowens are one point clear of Milk River atop the standings on 39 and with a game to go after today, could clinch the title on 42 points with a win if Milk River lose at Longwood on Saturday.
A Milk River loss coupled with a New Bowens win would hand the latter an unassailable four-point lead atop the charts.
However, achieving that feat could turn out to be a difficult task for New Bowens, as they will be playing a Gayle team, who are fighting to stave-off relegation from the Major League.
Gayle are in eighth place on 14 points, but with three games hand and will be looking to mind as many points as possible from here on.
New Bowens, who are looking to claim the double after earlier lifting the mid-season crown, should, however, pull through and will be relying on joint leading goalscorer Leon Callaghan with 13 strikes, to lead them to victory over Gayle, whom they nipped 1-0 in the first round.
Meanwhile, Omar white hit a hat-trick to earn York Town FC a 3-3 draw with Gimme-mi-bit FC at the York Town Community Centre on Tuesday.
White netted in the fourth, 38th and 75th, while Evon Robinson (14th), Davian Mitchell (23rd) and Mark Robinson (80th) responded for Gimme-mi-bit, who are now tied on 26 points with York Town in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
