Jamaica slip, but remain in charge of CFU
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Jamaica remained the highest-ranked team in the Caribbean Football Union, according to the latest men’s rankings released on Wednesday.
The Reggae Boyz slipped two places but remained in control of the regional governing body’s standings. In the FIFA rankings, they are 81st, remaining ahead of Haiti who are still adjusting to life after the devastating earthquake in January and are down four places to 91st.
Jamaica played only one international friendly since the April rankings were released, going down 2-0 to South Africa in Germany.
Trinidad and Tobago similarly fell four spots to be 95th but continue third in the CFU rankings with Antigua also holding on to their fourth spot at 119th in the overall world rankings.
T&T’s Soca Warriors were also unsuccessful in their only international outing in the last month, crashing 0-2 away to Chile.
Dutch teams Suriname and Netherlands Antilles were the biggest movers, up three places from last month’s rankings.
Suriname are 10th in the regional rankings while lying 137th in the FIFA standings. Netherlands Antilles, meanwhile, continued to surge and are 12th in the CFU rankings and 154th overall.
The Surinamese are closing in on static Barbados who remained 135th in the overall rankings and are in danger of losing their ninth spot in CFU.
