Cavalier, Meadows seek alternate venues
KSAFA representatives Cavalier FC have confirmed that they will be using the UWI Bowl for their remaining matches in the DPL play-off series.
Meanwhile, Spanish Town-based side Meadows FC say they are awaiting a response from the St Catherine Football Association to finalise a venue.
This comes on the heels of a JFF release last Thursday stipulating that the teams find more secure venues to host the remainder of their qualifing matches.
Following the unrest in West Kingston, the play-offs were postponed last Wednesday, which saw two match days going idle, and will resume this Wednesday.
However, because of the tense security situation in sections of the Corporate Area and Spanish Town, the JFF implored the two clubs from the areas to relocate to safer venues which would be approved by the Federation.
According to Meadows’ coach Christopher Russell, the club sent a letter to its FA asking if it would safe to play at the Prison Oval and are slated to receive a reply tomorrow.
However, he said they have used Ferdie Neita Park already and that would be their first option.
The team played their first home game at the Portmore venue on the opening day after similar reasons forced a venue change at the last minute against Benfica. The team won that game 1-0.
Meanwhile Cavalier, who were scheduled to play their home matches at the Collie Smith Complex — which is in the volatile Rema community and nearby the West Kingston communities involved in the recent unrest — had to host their first match further up the road at the Tony Spaulding Complex in neighbouring Arnett Gardens.
However, the club comfirmed yesterday that they have already made arrangement to play their games at UWI.
Reno lead the four team play-off series with maximum six points after two games. Cavalier, with three points, are second on goal difference ahead of Meadows, while Benfica, who are yet to score a point, are at the bottom.
