Extra Flexx take lead in Major League semis
FROME, Westmoreland — Denville McKenzie’s treble on Monday gave promoted Extra Flexx a 3-2 lead over Mt Grace FC after the first leg of their Westmorland Captain’s Bakery Major League semi-final at Frome Sports Grounds.
McKenzie gave Extra Flexx a 2-0 lead before a double from Jessie Meyler brought Mt Grace back level before a late winner from the game’s hero.
McKenzie scored in the 10th and 30th minutes for Extra Flexx, last season’s Division One champions, who also topped the point’s tables this season with 39.
Meyler, however, cut into the deficit just before half-time when he scored in the 43rd before getting the equaliser in the 71st.
McKenzie scored the winner with five minutes to go when he completed his hat-trick in the 85th.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Russia and Paul Island played out a 1-1 draw at the same venue.
Derrick Malcolm gave Paul Island, the first end-of-round champions the lead when he scored from outside the area in the 44th minute, but Kemar Dawkins’ extended his league-leading goal tally when he got his 14th in the 83rd to leave the teams level going into tomorrow’s return leg.
In the second leg semi-final, Mt Grace and Extra Flexx will meet in the first game at 4:00 pm, before Paul Island take on Russia.
