Play Stock Market in Harrison Mem Cup

THE $480,000 Henry George Harrison Snr Memorial Cup Restricted Allowance V native-bred four-year-old and upward (NW2) is the designated feature of the 10-race midweek card at Caymanas Park today and it could turn out to be among the most competitive. First post 12:40.

A field of eight will face the starter in the 1,300 metres event but from all indications the winner is likely to come from one of four starters: Skipaway Prince, Sock Market, Awesome Reward and Seek Gold. Not necessarily in that order but it looks very difficult to keep these four runners out of the frame.

They are all in good form and having adjusted to the pace of the group should be battling each other for the major slice of the spoils in the closing stages.

George Miles’ bred and owned four-year-old bay colt Stock Market could translate his useful running performances, under a heavy impost, into victory by coming at his lightest weight for the season – 52.0kg from nine starts. Stock Market carried 54.0kg for his first four starts and 56.0kg in his last five and is without a victory although turning in consistent performances over distances from 1,000 metres straight to 1,500 metres.

Coming today over a distance that he will thoroughly enjoy trainer Tensang Chung has sent the consistent son of Burning Marque to post the lightest for the season by opting for the services of the inform 4.okg claiming apprentice Richard Cole. Cole will break Stock Market with at 52.0kg shooting from barrier one. The three instances that Stock Market has gone close this season it was from barrier four, six and 12 but based on his style of running the draw should not be too much of a problem escaping the barrier one draw as the apprentice is experienced enough to get his mount in a handy position and not get bog down to prevent him from get going when this is being decided.

He will face strong opposition from Skipaway Prince the mount of Omar Walker. Bred and owned by Elvin Duncan & Edgar Llewellyn and condition by Gregory Bucknor, Skipaway Prince has run his best races over 1,000 metres straight but is no slouch riding the bends and being well bred for 1,300 metres and beyond is expected to be in the heat of battle to the very end. So too is Seek Gold who showed on last while running on over 1,200 metres to finish third behind the out of class Reggae Princess that he will be a force to reckon with over the longer trip now the trainer Richard Phillips has on jockey Trevor Simpson to again ride.

Awesome Reward is more than likely to start as the favourite after her grand effort behind Reggae Princess on last. A daughter of Burning Margue out of Lady Vigorous, Awesome Reward is yet to show that she enjoys it this far but with Dane Nelson getting the call from trainer Delroy Wisdom to replace the 4.0kg claiming apprentice Robert Halledeen to come in at 54.0kg the consistent filly could find extra in the drive to go on for win and show that she is no stopper.
