Spartan, Free Town for Division One final
CHAPELTON, Clarendon — Spartan FC and Free Town will contest the final of the FX Trader/Clarendon FA’s Division One football competition after scoring semi-final victories over Harlem and Chatteau Progressive on Sunday.
At Clarendon College, goals from Jerome Willis in the 20th minute and Davian Williams in the 59th carried Spartan to a 2-1 win over Harlem, for whom Dwayne Whitely scored in the 37th.
In the other semi-final at Bodles Sports Club, Free Town needed penalties to stop Chatteau 4-2 after earlier playing out a 0-0 stalemate in full and extra-time.
Both teams, who will now advance to the Major League competition, will meet in next Sunday”s final at the Monymusk Sports Club for a chance to cop the $60,000 winners’ purse. The runners-up will collect $40,000.
Harlem and Chatteau will also square-off in the third and fourth place decider with the winner taking home $30,000 and the loser $20,000.
Meanwhile, Willis leads the race for the top goalscorer award with 11 strikes. The leading goalscorer will receive $5,000.
