Climate champions to rock World Environment Day concert
ARTISTES from the Voices for Climate Change Project will perform at the World Environment Day concert put on by the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) today at Devon House, St Andrew.
“It will definitely be an awesome experience for the group. This concert will not only entertain but help to sensitise the public about climate change and environmental issues,” said Alpheus Johnson from the popular group, One Third. The concert, billed under the theme “I am the Environment”, is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm on the north lawns of Devon House.
Also set to perform under the Voices for Climate Change Project are Lovindeer and Digicel Rising Stars alums Cameal Davis and K’Alee. along. These artistes are among 24 entertainers who have produced songs aimed at educating the public on climate change issues as part of the Voices for Climate Change Education Project led by the Panos Caribbean Institute and the National Environmental and Education Committee (NEEC).
NEPA has also arranged to have the Alpha Boys’ Band and Sarina Constantine accompanied by Ibo Cooper and his backing band.
“I plan to perform my songs on global warming, as well as Wild Gilbert seeing that we are now in the hurricane season,” said Lovindeer, a versatile deejay known for his cultural and social soundtracks.
The concert is a part of the activities celebrating National Environment Awareness Week led by the theme, ‘Many Species, One Planet, One Future’. The week began on Sunday, May 30, with a church service and will end tomorrow, National Environment Day, with poster exhibits from NEPA and a Biodiversity display from the Institute of Jamaica.
The concert is free and open to the public.
