Haitian born pop star Katia Cadet for CFW Benefit
Haitian born pop star and fashion icon, Katia Cadet, will be one of the featured performers on the Haiti Art and Fashion Benefit Night on Friday June 18 at Caribbean Fashionweek 2010.
The event, to be held at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston, will be attended by international fashionistas, designers, buyers, media, performers, celebrities and their guests as well as Jamaicans who have made this event the largest fashion and lifestyle presentation in the Caribbean region over the past 10 years.
A singer and song writer par excellence, Katia recently embarked on a solo career. Prior to that that she earned Grammy nominations for writing such hits as Wyclef Jean’s 911. Recently he returned the favour, collaborating with her on her soon-to-be-released album, Boundless, with a featured duet on the track, Kite Yo Pale. With You a Zouk track with a strong R&B edge, sung in both French and English, is the first single of the album.
Katia is seen as the perfect fashion icon, combining a keen sense of style with a strong multi-cultural world view, well beyond her years. Born in Haiti, she was raised in Montreal, Canada. She is the latest celebrity to be confirmed for CFW 2010, the 10th anniversary of the event. Her appearance on Friday’s Haiti Benefit is crucial to The Pulse Foundation’s efforts to raise funds which will be used to help with the reconstruction of Haiti’s art, craft and fashion industries.
The Haiti Benefit will be a feature of CFW over the next five years. One thousand dollars of every ticket sold at Friday’s benefit will go to the project. Come Friday June 18, Jamaicans will get a taste of what she’s made. Who knows, her mentor and countryman, Wyclef Jean, might very well join her on stage.
