Fraser to run at World Challenge tomorrow
RABAT, Morocco (CMC) — Jamaican sprint star Shelly-Ann Fraser will be one of the headliners for the third edition of the Meeting International Mohammed VI which runs off tomorrow.
The pint-sized, 23-year-old is expected to be one of 15 World and Olympic champions gracing Prince Moulay Abdellah sporting facilities for the IAAF World Challenge meet.
Fraser shot to prominence in 2008 when she captured gold in the 100 metres at the Beijing Olympics, a feat she repeated at the World Championships in Berlin last year.
She is the fifth fastest woman in the world this year with a clocking of 11.04 seconds in Ostrava last week and will be looking to build on a tentative start to the season.
Her outing in Shanghai last month, the second leg of the IAAF Diamond League, was a disappointing one as she finished second behind world leader American Carmelita Jeter.
Fraser will have things a little easier this time around as she will come up against veteran Bahamian sprinter Chandra Sturrup, whom she has already beaten this season.
The 100 metres will be the only sprint event on the women’s side of the competition, while the half-lap will highlight men’s action.
