Flying into Egypt for a whirlwind promotional trip, it would be pretty safe to assume Paris Hilton didn’t read a guidebook beforehand.

Spending a few days in Cairo, where she was being paid to appear at the Automech 2010 car show, Hilton traded in her usual shopping and partying exploits to soak up some of the tourist sites.

But it appears no one had given Hilton any advice on the local customs, as the heiress opted for a revealing, backless maxi dress with a plunging neckline. While the 29-year-old may have thought the long length of the skirt could be considered ‘modest’, she exposed a bit too much flesh on top in the Muslim country.

As she visited the ancient Pyramids of Giza on the outskirts of Cairo, Hilton gave locals a glimpse of even more flesh as she hiked up her skirt and cavorted on a camel for the cameras. While shorts and bikinis may be accepted on the Egyptian beach resorts of Sharm El Sheik and Hurghada, Westerners are expected to cover up more in the cities of Cairo and Luxor.

The Lonely Planet advises female travellers to Cairo to dress conservatively to avoid “unwanted attention” from local men, while the UK Foreign Office suggests women should dress modestly, covering their legs and upper arms. After her trip to the Pyramids, Hilton changed into a pair of black leggings and pink vest top for her visit to the Egyptian Museum in the city.

The socialite kept fellow tourists entertained as she struck her typical red-carpet poses beside ancient artifacts, including hieroglyphics and statues of Pharaohs. Writing on her Twitter page, Hilton enthused: “Paris is in Cairo! Love it… I Love Egypt… Egypt is amazing.”

Fans at a basketball game in Los Angeles got a surprise when two Hollywood stars puckered up for a kiss.

And it wasn’t a formulaic boy-meets-girl scenario. In fact it was a kiss between two male stars who worked together, but who fans may not have imagined were friendly enough to get so intimate. Dustin Hoffman, 73, and Jason Bateman, 41, found themselves under the spotlight when the “kiss cam” at the Staples Centre in LA zoomed in on them.

Like the good sports they are, the two actors, who appeared in Mr Magorium’s Wonder Emporium together, puckered up for a full-on kiss, much to the surprise and amusement of the arena’s crowd. The actors were among a large number of celebrities who attended the NBA finals match between the LA Lakers and the Boston Celtics.
