Veteran Croft named in Glamorgan squad for Windies A clash
CARDIFF, Wales (CMC) — Veteran off-spinner Robert Croft has been included in a 13-man Glamorgan squad to face West Indies A in a three-day first-class match at the SWALEC Stadium starting today.
The game is the opening fixture of the Caribbean side’s tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland, and serves as a precursor to two back-to-back four-day “Tests” against India next week.
Croft, who played the last of his 21 Tests nine years ago, is on the brink of a coveted landmark of 1000 wickets for the Welsh county. He currently has 993 wickets and requires just seven more to cross the four-figure threshold.
Having been included in the squad, the 40-year-old Croft is expected to be named in the final XI for the game.
The match will mark a return to the longer form of the game for Glamorgan who are currently involved in the Friends Provident Twenty20 tournament.
While Glamorgan will be facing West Indies A for the first time in a three-day fixture, they have clashed with the Caribbean side before in a one-dayer they won four years ago in a high-scoring run chase at Ebbw Vale.
Squad — Tom Maynard (captain), Gareth Rees, Will Bragg, Ben Wright, Mike Powell, Nick James, David Brown, Robert Croft, Adam Shantry, Will Owen, Chris Ashling, Huw Waters, David Harrison.
