Inter-Col boss ousted by no-cofidence vote
THE president of the Jamaica Intercollegiate Sports Association Silvero Castro was booted by a no-confidence vote at a special general meeting at the University of the West Indies (Mona) Council Room on Friday.
The motion, moved by Dalton Myers, head of Sports at UWI, Mona, was voted on as six of the member institutions presented moved in favour of the motion, while four abstained of the 11 institutions present.
Castro was removed for lack of performance and visibility as head of the association. In a stormy meeting, Myers — in moving the motion — said the association needs to improve its leadership and standard of delivery.
“The leadership is left wanting and it’s untenable as the availability of the president to the association is beyond the required standard,” he said.
In response, Castro agreed to his poor leadership and apologised to members while pledging to improve, but the decision stands.
A motion was also moved to replace the chair of the Track and Field Athletic committee Maurice Wilson, which was voted on, and a new chair is being sought. Treasurer Gracelyn Crawford had resigned and the association is also seeking to fill that position.
The members also decided that the term of office for the new executive that will be elected in March 2011 will serve for a four-year term instead of two years in keeping with international standards.
Castro, the chairman of the board for GC Foster College, was elected on last year at the annual general meeting at GC Foster College.
