Necessary Luxury – Donna Duncan
Group Executive Director – Culture and Leadership Development Jamaica Money Market Brokers Ltd (JMMB).
“As the head of Culture and Leadership Development my focus is on people! Especially at JMMB, where we value relationships and partnerships and are committed to having our clients, team members and shareholders’ best interest at heart. It means seeking always to be in the world of our clients, external and internal (i.e. our team members) and partnering with them to meet their needs and leave them delighted in the process. My necessary luxuries enable me to keep track of my commitments at the forefront of my thoughts.
I always have with me a pocket-sized notebook. This acts as my capture tool; it allows me to capture thoughts, ideas, reminders as they come to me and helps to track my commitments. With my current Items folder, I always have relevant documents on hand – it’s my office on the go! I have the undying hope that I will have free time that I can actually meet my commitments ahead of the due date.
An inspirational book of some sort always serves as a place for me to retreat mentally, to get centred, grounded and to remind me to always find a reason to celebrate, praise and give thanks. I love colour, life and laughter.
A pencil case with coloured pencils inspires me to remain creative, and artwork or a card from one of my daughters which always seems to find its way into my handbag, knapsack or folder helps to brighten my days. Finally, I have my BlackBerry Bold. I must admit – I’m a recent convert to using the e-mail functionality, but I’ve really warmed up to it. Again, it fulfils one of my primary needs – to remain connected to those around me making the most of every interaction and staying true to my commitments.”
