North American fans predict US triumph at the WCup
SOUTH AFRICA 2010
JOHANNESBURG (AP) — While many football followers expect Brazil to win the World Cup for a record sixth time, almost half of North Americans predict an unexpected triumph for the United States.
Bookmakers rate Brazil and Spain as favourites to win the title at Soccer City Stadium on July 11 and Nielsen Media Research says 34 per cent of people worldwide are backing the South Americans.
Argentina, England, Germany and the US are next in the global survey with just nine per cent of the vote.
But 46 per cent of North Americans surveyed reckon that the United States are going to cause a shock and take home the trophy.
