Producer makes a Hit with live music
For record producer Rupert Blackwood music is his first love and he understands that it is also a business. So he focuses on the business side of his craft by making sure that his music is well produced, packaged, and promoted to its target audience.
A shrewd businessman who plays to win, he surrounds himself with the very best musical minds and personnel within the entertainment fraternity. He has worked with an ‘A’ list of musicians/producers including Sly & Robbie, Ansel Collins, Computer Paul, Dean Frazer, Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, Flabba Holt, Danny Marshall, Tony Green, Chico Chin, Bongo Herman, Uzziah ‘Sticky’ Thompson and engineers Steven Stanley and Delroy ‘Fatta’ Pottinger.
Blackwood’s latest production is the Hit riddim, a live, original, one-drop riddim which features songs by Luciano (Memories), George Nooks (Now You Know), Fred Locks (She Is A Hit) and Brown Lion (Work Tonight) and which are receiving rotation on FM radio in Jamaica, the Caribbean, the United States, England, Europe, Japan and countries in Africa.
“I love to work with musicians; live music is the real music it brings out the feeling and emotions,” says Blackwood.
These songs were released on his Super 100 Entertainment Label and are available for digital download and are also in stores.
Blackwood, who was born Mocho, Clarendon but grew up in St Catherine, was exposed to music from an early age. The area sound systems played an integral part in his development as a musical selector and he honed his skills at community events and street dances. He learned the art of producing music from many top Jamaican producers as he frequented the top recording studios.
His early influences were groups such as The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Marty Robins, Skatalites, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff and Big Youth, all of whom left an indelible mark on him.
He migrated to the United States and despite the constant travelling back forth to Jamaica he kept abreast of the current happenings on music scene. Twelve years ago he decided to do music professionally so he returned to Jamaica. He is currently working on a project with Jamaican artiste Andru Anthony and a major recording artiste in the United States.
