Leaders hit snag in St James League
ALBION, St James — Zone A teams Revelation FC and Barrett Town FC’s march to the semi-finals of the St James Claro Senior was slowed after they were beaten by Zone B teams in third-round cross-zone games on Monday.
At Albion, Calvin Buchanan scored twice in the final 12 minutes to guide Tomorrow’s People to a come from behind 2-1 win over Revelation FC as they chalked up their league leading 10th win and 33rd point in Zone B.
At Flankers, Barrett Town’s third-round misery continued as they were beaten 3-1 by a surging Melbourne FC 3-1 to leave Salt Spring United with an outside chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.
At Albion, Revelation — who are still in the three teams race in Zone A for the semi-finals, led up to the 77th minute before two late goals sent them to their third loss of the season.
Gary McLennon had given Revelation FC the lead in the 18th minute, but it took semi-final qualifiers Tomorrow’s People 60 minutes to equalise when Buchanan got his first of the game in the 78th.
Buchanan got his second and sealed the win three minutes from the end, scoring the game winner in the 87th.
Despite the loss, Revelation still lead Zone A with 28 points, three more than Barrett Town with Salt Spring United on 23 points with two games in hand.
Barrett Town failed to make up grounds on Revelation as Norman Foster scored a hat-trick to lead Melbourne to a fourth straight win as they shot up to 22 points and has an outside chance of making it to the top four with two games to go.
After a slow start, Melbourne have hit top gear and scored seven goals in their last two games and have conceded two goals in their last four games.
On Monday, Foster — who represented the Reggae Boyz in the 1990s — scored in the 6th, 26th and 68th minutes, while Kemar Reynolds got Barrett Town’s consolation goal in the 86th.
Fogo United, however, put themselves in a position to accompany Tomorrow’s People as the Zone B semi-finalists after beating Mt Salem 3-0 and confirming their relegation, along with Abes Academy.
Abes lost for the 11th time when they were edged 2-1 by Salt Spring United for who Javian Bailey and Omar Clarke scored, while Mikhail Lesley had a late response.
Mountain Villa got their second win of the season, edging Granville City 1-0 at Wyndham with Romaine Cameron scoring the lone goal in the 48th minute.
In the other game, Salt Spring Roses and North Gully Ambassadors drew 0-0 at Tucker.
